POTENSI BAWANG MERAH (Allium cepa L) SEBAGAI ANTIDIABETES PADA PENELITIAN IN VIVO: SEBUAH TINJAUAN SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
Abstract
Kematian akibat diabetes terus meningkat setiap tahun. Bawang merah terkenal memiliki kemampuan untuk menurunkan kadar gula darah penderita diabetes Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyimpulkan berbagai penemuan terkait dengan potensi kemampuan bawang merah sebagai antidiabetes. Metode : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Systematic Literature Review menggunakan tujuh literatur dari PubMed dan DOAJ yang diseleksi dengan PRISMA-P. Hasil : Bawang merah memiliki efek hipoglikemik pada mencit akut yang kuat pada pemberian jangka panjang akibat kandungan sulfur di dalamnya. Perbaikan uptake glukosa pada liver berasal aktivitas antioksidan quercetin dari bawang merah, namun bawang merah utuh lebih baik sebagai antidiabetes karena efek sinergis dari fitokimia lainnya. Bawang merah dapat menurunkan tingkat stress oksidatif dan meningkatkan kemampuan antioksidan karena kemampuan menetralisir radikal bebas oleh quercetin. Bawang merah memiliki kemampuan menghambat peningkatan kadar glukosa post-prandial dengan menginhibisi alpha-glucosidase. Perbedaan bagian bawang merah dan teknik pemrosesan dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan antidiabetes bawang merah. Kesimpulan : Bawang merah memiliki kemampuan antidiabetes dengan mekanisme berbeda-beda yang berasal dari efek sinergis fitokimia di dalamnya.
