UJI EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK EKSTRAK BAWANG BOMBAI (Allium Cepa L. Var. Cepa) TERHADAP PETUMBUHAN JAMUR Mallasezia furfur SECARA IN VITRO
Abstract
Pytiriasis versicolor is a superficial skin infection that caused by Malassezia furfur. The negative effect that caused by the pathogenic Malassezia furfur causes the need for natural antifungi as an alternative treatment. Onion extract (Allium Cepa L.Var Cepa) has the potential as a natural antifungal because it contains active metabolite compounds in the form of flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, triterpenoids, steroids, glycosides, and phenols which can cause inhibition of Malassezia furfur growth. This type of research is an experimental study using onion extract obtained through maceration techniques. The antifungal test was carried out using the disk diffusion method with the media used was Saboroud Dextrose Agar. The research sample used was Malassezia furfur mushroom which was treated using onion extract with concentrations of 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70%. The results of this research showed that the diameter of the highest inhibitory zone in Malassezia furfur was 41,225 mm at a concentration of 70%, and the lowest inhibitory zone was equal to 13,675 mm at a concentration of 30%. Based on this research, onion extract has antifungal effectiveness for inhibit the growth of the Malassezia furfur. The inhibition that produced by onion extract is caused by secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids that work by inhibiting the work of mitochondria, alkaloids that work by disrupting the process of DNA synthesis, glycosides that work by inhibiting the growth of fungal hyphae, and triterpenoids that work by way of damaging the organelles of the cell organism causing inhibition of fungal growth
